The Magog Trust and Cambridge Past, Present & Future (formerly Cambridge Preservation Society) in Partnership.

The Magog Trust and Cambridge Preservation Society are very pleased to announce that new arrangements have been agreed which will give Ranger cover for the Magog Down. A contract Ranger Service will be provided from late summer onwards by the Cambridge Preservation Society’s Rangers to ensure that the safety and security of the Magog Down, owned by The Magog Trust, a charitable Company, is enhanced and the rules of the Countryside Code followed. Not only are the sites owned by these two organisations adjacent, i.e. Magog Down and Wandlebury Country Park are on either side of the A1307 just south of Cambridge, but the aims of the two organisations overlap in many ways:

• Providing, for posterity, green space for informal recreation
• Conserving areas for wildlife – birds, flowers, small mammals, butterflies etc that are also special to the habitats of chalkland landscape
• Contributing to the environment and landscape setting of Cambridge and its surrounding villages

Magog Down is farmland, with arable, woodland and grazing, that complements Wandlebury Country Park. Such green areas are vital for the inhabitants of South Cambridgeshire as well as the City. As housing development expands into our green fields and is now far denser than ever before, it will bring increased footfall to our outstanding sites on the Gog Magog Hills.

We ask that visitors respect the land on which they walk and abide by the rules set which are to benefit all users as well as grazing animals, wildlife and Scheduled Ancient Monuments.

By using the same Ranger Service, we can invoke a common set of values to the two sites based on the Countryside Code, and enable all our visitors to cherish the special landscape of the Gogs.
