Annual Reviews

Each year we now produce an 'Annual Review' for Friends and Members, which incorporates a summary of our formal Year-end Report, plus what we hope are some interesting highlights of the year in question.

The previous few Annual Reviews can be downloaded here:

Members and Friends are sent these annual reviews as soon as they are produced each summer, and have an opportunity to attend our AGM each October and raise any issues.

News Round-up - January 2014

Success of 2013 donation campaign
Our mailing last September to Members to let them know about our AGM included an invitation to donate to specific forthcoming initiatives, viz the Bird seed for this winter, and the cost of a proposed new Hedge. We have been delighted with the very generous response of many Members, which means that the full cost of bird feeding has now been covered, and a good contribution has been made towards the cost of the hedge (see above).

Singing Trees
A recent visit by the Trustees to the RSPB Hope Farm at Knapwell showed the benefits of what are known as ‘Singing Trees’. These are tall standard trees with the crown, even of young trees well above the top of the hedge. These offer perches for bird species such as yellowhammer and corn bunting. Read more here about how we hope to introduce these on the Down.

Donate for nothing with "Giving a Bit"!
Anyone making online purchases is encouraged to take advantage of a great way to donate extra 'money for nothing' to your favourite causes, including The Magog Trust. So far, our contributions via this route total just over £15 - but with your help they could be much more than that! Register your account today at www.givingabit.com and follow the instructions to link your donations to The Magog Trust, then start seeing your donations add up when next you shop online.

Date for your Diary: Sunday 28th September 2014
This year will mark the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the Magog Trust, and we will be celebrating the milestone with an event to which all current Friends and Members will be invited. The format will comprise a Sunday lunch with invited speakers, taking place at the Jubilee Pavilion, followed by the opportunity to have a guided tour of the Down itself. Further details will be circulated nearer the time.

Old Newsletters

Up until 2011 we produced a twice-yearly Newsletter, and you can still download copies of some of these here:

pdf_logo_smallAutumn/Winter 2010

Spring 2010

Autumn/Winter 2009

Spring 2009

In 2011 the re-designed website was launched, and so the decision was taken to stop producing these Newsletters, and instead to use this website as the main means of communication for news and articles of interest.

This move away from a regular Newsletter meant that more of the Members' and Friends' subscriptions could be spent directly on the costs of upkeep and husbandry on the Down.

We would love every regular visitor to Magog Down to help support its upkeep by becoming a Friend. Read more on our Join Us page, and then complete the application form.
