Each year we now produce an 'Annual Review' for Friends and Members, which incorporates a summary of our formal Year-end Report, plus what we hope are some interesting highlights of the year in question.

Parents act as Poo Fairy

As this rather faded sign in the undergrowth on Magog Down's perimeter Dog Walk says, "There's no such thing as the Dog Poo Fairy" when the parents organising this year's Stapleford School PTA Fun Run wanted to ensure that their children would not be treading on uncollected dog mess, there was only one thing to do: go out and clear up the mess themselves!

We're very grateful to the small group of parents who walked the route of the Fun Run in preparation for the event on 12th June, and scraped up very many uncleared dog faeces, disposing of them appropriately in the bins provided. As one passing dog walker said at the time, "It's a shame some dog owners don't do it themselves!"

We're also grateful and appreciative of the vast majority of dog walkers on Magog Down who we know do indeed dispose of their dogs' waste sensibly.  While we are happy to pay our contractor to empty the designated dog bins - which is done twice a week, all year round - there is nobody who is engaged to collect "stray" dog poo, nor do we feel it appropriate to ask anyone to perform this grim task, either as a paid contract, or on a volunteer basis.

Perhaps some visitors may notice that the Dog Walk was less littered with stray poo following the Fun Run, and we hope the effect will last.  Enormous thanks to those very kind Stapleford School parents who did this dirty job.

Old Newsletters

Up until 2011 we produced a twice-yearly Newsletter, and you can still download copies of some of these here:

Spring 2010

Autumn/Winter 2009

Spring 2009

In 2011 the re-designed website was launched, and so the decision was taken to stop producing these Newsletters, and instead to use this website as the main means of communication for news and articles of interest.

This move away from a regular Newsletter meant that more of the Members' and Friends' subscriptions could be spent directly on the costs of upkeep and husbandry on the Down.

We would love every regular visitor to Magog Down to help support its upkeep by becoming a Friend. Read more on our Join Us page, and then complete the application form.
